SALLY GATES is a New Zealand guitarist and composer, currently based in New York. Her instrumental trio, Titan to Tachyons, released their debut album, 'Cactides' through Nefarious Industries. Kenny Grohowski (Secret Chiefs 3, Brand X, etc) and Matt Hollenberg (John Zorn, Cleric) make up the rhythm section in this avant-rock/jazz metal trio. Their debut was recorded with Colin Marston at the Thousand Caves studio in their home base of New York, and features Trevor Dunn (Mr Bungle, Fantômas, etc) as a guest on bass for the closing track, 'Everybody's Dead, Dave'. The album is now available to purchase here.
Sally often performs in NYC with improvisational ensembles, such as Triphammer (with Larry Kwartowitz and Johnny DeBlase), and other musicians such as Trevor Dunn, Greg Fox, John Longstreth, and most notably as a 'Secret Guest' at a John Zorn improv night. She has become known as an adept, experimental player from these performances, and her prior work with the progressive metal band Orbweaver.
Live appearances have included performing with Buke and Gase, Regi Wooten, Judas Priestess, and touring internationally as a session member for Gigan and Success Will Write Apocalypse Across the Sky. Always open to different musical experiences, she has worked with performance artist Naama Tsabar at Art Basel Miami, played in Tatsuya Nakatani's Gong Orchestra, and performed at Miami's International Noise Conference.
Sally is endorsed by PRS Guitars, Orange Amps, and Asterope Cables.
